I recently discovered the store, and have been rather impressed with it.  I was wondering if someone could share a brief history of Parallax Computers & Games.

I'll yell at Andrew to answer this, hopefully he'll get around to doing so. Tongue

I concur with netlevi. My friends and I have just discovered the store and it seems like an awesome place. I love the gaming and small business atmosphere. How long has the store been open and when did it start?

OK I realize it took a long time to get to this but here goes.

Andrew has been repairing computers for at least 5 years now.  He worked on-site and out of his home for most of that time, but with an expanding family, a better arrangement became necessary.  He looked around for a while
and finally came across the location he is at.  It was a little bigger than he needed for computer repair, so he played around with a few options for the rest of the space.

The store opened just about a year ago now.  Good thing too, since there was need of a good gaming store in Bismarck and nothing available.  Sure there is Dave's Hobbies with Games Workshop and a few role play books, and Collector's Universe that has some CCGs and a few clix minis, but nothing where many gamers can gather for whatever game they wish to play.  Then came Parallax.

Parallax opened in mid August, with a small inventory of games, a few loyal people to get the doors open, and word of mouth to whatever gaming groups could be located.  In the beginning, we didn't have much to work with, unsure of what games would sell and what interests people had in the community.  We brought D&D and WoD in, along with as many of the top games as we could find off of Boardgamegeek.com.

As people started to show up, we quickly learned what was wanted and inventory picked up to what it is now.  One of the first large lines brought in was Games Workshop.  Warhammer and especially Warhammer 40K are extremely popular in the store, with games going on every Sunday.  Yu-Gi-Oh! is also highly liked, with a Saturday tournament and now a weekly league beginning Tuesdays.

Role play groups meet a couple of nights a week, Friday night and Tuesday night right now, hopefully more starting soon.  At the moment there is not a clear boardgame group, although I am trying to get my schedule to allow a stable evening.

Parallax is just about to celebrate its first Birthday.  I'd like to congratulate Andrew and wish for many more to come.
