Whatever happened to the good old days when that list would have consisted of Chess, checkers, and backgammon. Although new games are fun and more challenging to play, sometimes a good throwback game is a welcome friend when you cannot figure out all of the rulings on the new magic cards. Whatever happened to midnight chess anyway?

Chess or checkers is a great alternative to Magic.  Of course, magic is not a board game, so I hadn't considered it for inclusion on the above poll.  And since no one has ever come up to me on Board Game Monday asking about chess or checkers, though both valid board game choices, they were not included.

Perhaps I should have labeled the poll "Favorite Social Board Game".... that way, chess, checkers, and Axis and Allies (all two player games) wouldn't have been so inadvertently left out.  Me aculpa.

(And scrabble IS a two player game.  I don't care if it comes with the stuff for up to 4 players.. it's only a REAL game of scrabble when it's tournament rules head to head.)

Attack is something I just played... its like risk and axis and allies together, and the playing time is less then axis and allies!
